The photographs on this page were taken on a trip to Botswana and Zimbabwe lasting three weeks during November 2016. The visit to Zimbabwe followed the period in Botswana and started with a land crossing into the country from Kasana in Botswana and driving to Victoria Falls by road allowed a night to be spent in the town of Victoria Falls at Bayete Guest Lodge with the opportunity to visit the Falls.
The next stop on the itinerary was for three nights at Khulu Lodge just outside Hwange National Park on a private concession. The final destination for the visit was the highly eccentric Amalinda Lodge in the Matobo Hills close to Bulawayo for two nights. The Rhodes Motopos National Park does not contain large numbers of large game animals, but does provide the opportunity to approach on foot white rhinoceroceros without much difficulty and at the same time is replete with historical and cultural interest such as the bushmen cave paintings and the tomb of Cecil Rhodes and other founders of Southern Rhodesia. The return travel was by plane from Bulawayo to Johannesburg.
