The photographs on the following pages record the Gambian part of a trip undertaken to The Gambia and Senegal in February 2018. The trip started in the capital of the Gambia, Banjul, and the first day was spent in the coastal area of the River Gambia looking at the Mangrove areas. The second day was spent travelling into Senegal, which is documented on the pages devoted to that country. After a few days spent in Northern Senegal we returned to the Gambia, crossing the River Gambia by ferry near Farafenni and staying in Tendaba Camp. After two days in Tendaba we transferred back to Banjul and stayed for the remaining period in Mandinari River Lodge. This lodge provided an excellent base to explore a number of different sites and habitats around the city of Banjul. In addition to the birds seen and photographed elsewhere the grounds of the lodge itself provided many opportunites to observe a wide range of birds, often in large numbers.Photogallery
