This visit to Morocco took place during March 2018 and started from the city of Marrakech. As a result of a disruption to the travel plans the first day was spent visiting the ski resort at Oukaimeden about 70 km from Marrakech, a trip that was not altogether successful due to the large number of people visiting the area at the weekend. The following day involved a long transfer to the Atlas mountains with a stay at Azrou and an investigation of the area around Ifrane, followed by a transfer to the town of Midelt. The weather in these areas was cold and birds were present in small numbers. Our next destination was Merzouga on the edge of the Sahara desert. The weather here was at first unexceptional, but on the second day the wind was very strong creating a thick dust storm with the temperature below 10 degrees and this was followed by heavy rain during the afternoon. Photography conditions during this period were exceptionally poor. After leaving the desert out next stay was in the Dades Gorge close to the town of Boumalne, surprisingly many birds were photographed on a large rubbish dump extending for many kilometres outside the town. Our final two destinations before returning to Marrakech were Skoura, where a large lake provided some photographic opportunities and Marirha quite close to Marrakech from where we made a second trip to Oukaimeden this time without large numbers of visitors. The trip terminated in Marrakech from where it had started.
