Family Falconidae – Falcons, Kestrels & Caracaras

The family is divided into two subfamilies the Falconinae containing birds of prey of the genus Falco which includes about 37 species plus 4 other genera totalling 9 species . Falcons are widely distributed on all continents of the world except Antarctica. The second subfamily the Polyborinae includes Caracaras and Forest Falcons; contains 6 genera and numbers about 17 species.
